Pigs in a blanket with little smokies are a delicious and easy two-ingredient appetizer. Wrap store-bought crescent dough around mini-sized sausages and bake. They are simple and tasty! Try them at your next gathering. They are a crowd pleaser.

Pigs in a blanket made with little smokies sausages are a favorite with my family, and I bet they will be with yours, too!
This recipe seems to have been around for years because it is tasty and easy to make. The savory sausage and the buttery, flaky dough make Pigs in a Blanket a delicious appetizer or snack, and it is a hit at parties and gatherings.
To make them, you only need mini sausages and store-bought crescent dough. Divide the crescent dough into three strips and wrap each strip around a sausage. Bake the pigs in a blanket, let them cool slightly, and then they are ready to eat.
Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce. My family loves simple sauces, so we serve them with ketchup and mustard. However, they are also delicious when dipped in barbeque sauce, honey mustard, or fry sauce.

Why You Will Love This Recipe
- Kid-friendly
- Perfect finger food for parties
- Easy to prepare
- Ready to eat in no time
- You only need 2 ingredients
🥘Ingredients
See the recipe card for quantities.

- Storebought Crescent Dough-I usually purchase Pillsbury Crescent Roll dough in a can. However, any brand will work.
- Little Smokies- My family loves Hillshire Beef Lit'l Smokies. You can, however, use whichever flavor or brand of mini sausage you wish. Be sure to purchase sausages that are fully cooked.
🔪 Step-by-Step Instructions

Separate each triangle along the perforation. Cut each triangle into three strips.

The three strips should be approximately equal in size to the picture above.

Roll a sausage in the strip of dough.

Place the dough-wrapped sausage seam-side down on the sheet pan. Be sure to leave space between the pigs in the blanket.

Bake until the crescent is light brown in color.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, mustard, barbeque sauce, or fry sauce. This classic party appetizer will be a hit with your guests of all ages.
📖 Variations
Below are a few options to customize your mini sausages in crescent dough.
- Brush the tops with butter before you bake them. -
- Make an egg wash by whisking 1 egg with 2 teaspoons of water and brush the tops of the pigs in a blanket before baking them.
- Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on the tops before they are baked.
- Sprinkle flaky salt on the crescent-wrapped sausages after you take them out of the oven.
🍽 Equipment Needed
- Pizza wheel cutter
- Cutting Board-This one is dishwasher safe! One less thing to hand wash.
- Sheet pans-I have used these pans for years. Hot tip-soak the sheet pans for a few hours before you clean them. Baked-on food will easily come off the pan when you clean them.
- Parchment Paper Sheets-I love these parchment sheets. So much easier to use than a roll of parchment paper. The sheets lay flat and don't roll up on the pan.
- Warming Tray-to keep pigs in a blanket warm during your party.
Storage
If you have leftovers, which you probably won't because they are the first to go to any party, let the pigs in a blanket cool completely. Store them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Warm them in the oven or microwave.
💭 Don't miss this tip
When placing the pigs in a blanket on the baking sheet, leave about 2 inches between the pigs in a blanket so that the dough has room to puff up.
FAQ's
The pigs in a blanket can be prepped and placed on the sheet pans the day before. Cover and refrigerate. Bake before serving.
Yes, they are the same thing.

I make these as an appetizer when our Condo Association has a holiday get together or some other special occasion at our Clubhouse. I leave half plain and put Bar-B-Que sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's original) on the other half. They're very popular! I stick party toothpicks in them and place them in small, plastic "sample" cups to make them easier to handle and eat. I don't want to create more plastic waste (which the world doesn't need) so I collect the empty cups and wash them out so they can be reused/recycled. If you need to re-warm them, 15 seconds in the microwave is all you need.

Can you freeze them
Gitta Grether-Sweeney
Great question! You can freeze them after they have been baked. Be sure to cool them completely and then place them in a freezer bag or a container that can be frozen. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Reheat them for about 5-8 minutes on a sheet pan in a 350°F oven.
Enjoy!

Do you know how I can cook them in a Toaster Oven?
My Oven is not working till after the New years.

Hi Shari-
Great question. I am sorry that your oven is not working. I had a similar situation a few years ago and bought a counter top oven. It works fairly well but it does cook food faster.
For the pigs in a blanket, I would recommend baking them at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes or until the dough has puffed up and is brown. Keep a close eye on them so they do not over bake. Another suggestion is to bake 1 or 2 of them to see if you need to make any other adjustments in regard to temperature or baking time.
Please let me know how they turn out!
I hope that helps!
